by Richard Uhlhorn

CHELAN FIRE & RESCUE
Fire Chief Brandon Asher told the commissioners at its Wednesday, March 18 meeting that while there was still outstanding receivables, the district has a working 2026 budget. Commissioner Russ Jones added that the department still has to pay the city $30,000.

The $30,000 is from TIF revenues. Jones made a motion to approve the amended budget which was unanimously approved.

During Asher’s Chief’s Report, he said that February was good. “There were 60 calls in February, down from 64 last year,” Asher said. The District responded to three fires. He presented a map that showed where the district responded.

The green circles are the locations Chelan Fire has responded to.

“We are still working on our annual report and will have it for the next meeting.”

Chief Asher

The District is now in negotiations with the Union.

Assistant Chief Shawn Sherman reported that two applications were if for seasonal work. “This will help us maintain our staffing levels.” Sherman also stated that the administration is looking at how they will be processing applications in the future. He added that he has an entry level lateral job application.

As the 100th anniversary approaches, the district is reaching out to past volunteers and firefighters to join the celebration.

TRAINING:
Sherman reported that the district had 179 hours of training including a live fire event. The annual EMT courses are underway.

POLICY
Updates to the financial policies were adopted. The district is still working on its Personnel Policy. “How areewe going to put it all together,” Asher asked.

COMMISSIONER REPORTS:
Commissioner Edinger remarked that he is absolutely terrified of a new public trail being constructed between Manson and Chelan citing emergency service access. Asher replied that the planning group has valued the district’s input and that the department is trying to keep that line of communication open. We are supportive,” said Asher.
